Trevor Immelman joins the the most prestigous club in golf with a -8, 280 total to slip on his first Green jacket and card his first Major Championship. Immelman who led the field in driving accuracy and was top five in distance, GIR and putts fired three sub 70 rounds and held on to fend off the games most formidable foe.

Immelman represents a new breed of first time major winners and possible "contender" to Tiger Woods dominance in Golf. Trevor, with his poise, talent and demeanor has given a glimpse into what Gary Player has been stating for yerars. While he is far from becoming a week in/week out threat to Woods, he has taken the first big step into creating that persona. After having been cut last week in Houston, Immelman came into Augusta with a well drawn out gameplan and proved once again there are several ways to win the Masters. His ballstriking was his most lethal weapon, all week he kept the ball in play and executed with precision at each opportunity granted to him. His approach on the 72nd hole is a perfect microcosm for how he made his way around Augusta National. His ball having come to rest in a fairly good sized divot, Immelman fired it on the green with one final look at birdie. That divot represented all the obstacles he faced this week and with a certain colletivness Immelman toppled them all.
