For the second time in a year , St. Louis NBC local affiliate has chosen to cover the Cardinals afternoon game and pre-empt final round coverage of the "The Players Championship. While Phil mickelson will be charging on the back nine to defend his title or heck after Sergio's 66 today he might have a shot at holding off what is arguably the years best field, sans Tiger, we in st. louis have the pleasure of watching the Cardinals blow another sure win in the 8th or 9th inning.
Last year KSDK's (NBC affiliate) timing was even better not showing the final monday round or Sunday thoird round of the second leg of the PGA tour Playoffs at the TPC of Boston. KSDK chose to play the final stretches of the MDA labor day telethon where bad acts were greeted with large checks and locals looking for their 15 seconds of fame.
The St. Louis market just does not get it, with the BMW Championship coming late this summer they should be plastering golf as much as they possibly can. In Jacksonville they have had a countdown to "The Players" billboard inside the main terminal of the airport since the tournament's conclusion the year before. In St. Louis no one has any idea that the BMW is coming here other than those inside the golf world
Once again another stellar decision in a long line of many toward mediocrity and a mindset that will surely keep st. louis from ever emerging as a major or even relevant market.
