The host of the 2008 US Open is only the second municipal course to ever host an Open (the first being Bethpage Black).   The South Course at Torrey Pines is considered the more difficult of the two, with the back tees bing used for both the open as well as the annual Buick Invitational.    If you're in the San Diego area, Torrey Pines is worth checking out.

General Review
Pros: -Wonderful setting.
-US Open course.

Cons: -Only 2 holes are really directly on the coast...and they're right at the beginning of the course (3 & 4).
-Rough was short conditioning was decent, but not great.

Overall Thoughts: For me, this was a one-time play course. I enjoyed the layout but it wasn't particularly challenging, as the rough was very short and forgiving (understandably so, given it's a heavily-used muni) and the trees high enough to be too forgiving on missed tee shots. The views on #3 and #4 are outstanding, but after those two, most of the course is inland. To me, it was worth playing the South course, simply to say I played and Open track, but I wouldn't pay those rates to play again.
What do you usually shoot for 18 holes?: 80-90
