The real talk, however, is about the changes that might occur before the tournament. Most courses undergo various changes in leading up to majors (Augusta does almost every year now), but in the Serior PGA Championship last weekend, only 6 golfers scored under par, and that was on a course measuring only 7200 yards. For the 2012 PGA Championship, the course could be pushing 8000 yards.
Among the changes recommended,
infrastructure improvements seemed the most likely to take place, with the S.C. Governor Mark Sanford considering extending local interstates to closer approach Kiawah Island. In addition to that, Kiawah Island Resort President Roger Warren is planning on clearing as mush as 300 acres for parking.
Of the course changes (besides the obvious yardage increases), only the bunkers look to be improved, as the way they play now might be too punishing for even a major.
